What would you think of a “virtual” wine fair? At first glance, it may seem a bit ridiculous. How do you taste wine if it’s virtual? But that’s not the goal of this particular wine fair. It’s a strictly professionals only affair. The aim of the 3D Wine Fair is to get wine professionals together, without the hassle and expense of travelling to some far flung destination, and do some serious business. How does it work you might ask. It’s a very straightforward proposition. The website is 3D and uses the latest interactive communication tools from web cams, to audio conferences to chat, it’s all there. Each virtual stand has a plenitude of information about the producer and his/her wines via videos, technical sheets, borchures, etc. The exhibitors post a schedule when they are available so that prospective clients know when to contact them. The Fair is from the 14th to 18th of March, today is the last day but you can still check it out here. As part of the wine fair, the organizers have been running a wine talk show with many notable winemakers who have embraced social media, including Randall Graham of Bonny Doon, Oscar Quevedo of Quevedo Port and Jeff Stai (El Jefe) of Twisted Oak, as well as social media mavens as guests. I was invited to join in on the chat regarding social media and wine blogging. L’anima Wine Challenge – Vote for us!!!

First of all, if you’re reading this before 23:00 (GMT) on Aug 26th, run over to here and vote for me and The Boy!! The Winesleuth and Bibendum Dan (aka The Boy) took part in a fabulous social media experiment hosted by the award winning Italian restaurant L’anima. L’anima’s Head Sommelier, Gal Zohar, decided to  harnass the power of social media, be it, Facebook, Twitter, blogging, etc. to get people (even more) excited about L’anima’s winelist. They have an extensive list of some of Italy’s finest and most interesting wines and want to add a few more. Once I found the place, we sat down to taste. Listed in no particular order and by our Twitter names – Gal Zohar (@zoharwine),Dan Coward (@bibendumwine, Robert McIntosh (@thirstforwine) recorded the event and updated folks],Jamie Goode (@jamiegoode),Douglas Blyde (@douglas_blyde),Anthony Rose (@antrose33) and me, Denise Medrano (@thewinesleuth) 15 wines to get through in less than 2 hours. We tasted through 5 flights of 3 wines each (listed here), and then were divided into teams  and interviewed to try and convince all you twitters out there why the wines we chose would be the best additions to L’anima’s wine list. You get to vote on which video was most convincing. Upcoming Live Online Oysters and Champers tasting, London

I just got an invite to what sounds like a really cool event. Galvin@Windows is going to be hosting a live online oyster and Champagne tasting event. Now how did they know I adore champagne? and add in oysters…have I died and gone to heaven?  Galvin@Windows is on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane and is a relatively new restaurant in town. This is the first of what they promise to be a “new series of special events”. The event is going to be livestreamed using Ustream by According to the press release, we… will be using social media tools such as blogging, tweeting, video and spin voxing as the event unfolds to report and interact with their world wide audience.  Guests will be presented with several varieties of oysters such as Fine de Claires, Helford Native, Duchy of Cornwall and a range of Champagnes from houses such as Laurent Perrier, Bruno Paillard and Galvin own brand.  Food and wine lovers will be able to follow the tasting, live online from the comfort of their own home on their PC, iPhone, Twitter and via partner blogs and websites.  The event will be hosted by BBC Radio 2 presenter Nigel Barden with participation from Chris Galvin (Galvin at Windows), Bruno Murciano (Bibendum), Robin Hancock (Wright Brothers), Sokratis Papafloratos (TrustedPlaces), Andre Garrett and Fred Sirieix (Galvin at Windows).
