Prosecco & Smoked Salmon, coming up!

The Winesleuth usually GOES to events, not plans them, but for a change of pace I’ve teamed up with the London based Irish food blogger, Niamh of Eatlikeagirl to bring you smoked salmon and Bisol Prosecco. Next Thursday, 6 Aug., Niamh and I are going to be running a food and drink stall in Covent Garden as part of the Real Food Market at Covent Garden, happening every Thursday this summer. Niamh was approached not long ago to set up a stall and we thought it would be fun to do a type of pop-up bar smack in the middle of Covent Garden. I’ve been a big fan of Bisol prosecco ever since the Dolce Vita show held at Olympia back in April and had the chance to speak with Roberto Cremonese of Bisol (watch video below). It’s quality prosecco and the folks of Bisol have been producing it since 1542. Niamh is in charge of the food and she’ll be serving up smoked salmon from the fine Irish purveyor Frank Hederman, one of her favourites, accompanied by Niamh’s homemade brown Irish soda bread and homemade cucumber pickle. Sounds delicious and it should go down a treat with the prosecco. So, if you’re wandering around Covent Garden next Thursday and feeling a bit peckish, stop by and say hi to the Girl and The Sleuth! Friendly gruner veltliner

I’ve got a few more videos left from the London International Wine Fair. I know it may seem like they’ll never stop coming but just one or two left. Some people complain that the show is too big, too much, too impersonal but I always have a great time and meet great people. I’ve had the Friendly Gruner Veltliner before, at Bibendum’s tasting at the Saatchi Gallery a few months ago, but here I had the opportunity to speak with the winemaker himself, Laurenz Maria Moser V. As you might be able to tell by the V., Laurenz is a descendent of the famous Lenz Moser clan of Austria. His grandfather was the legendary Professor Doctor Laurenz Moser III, who invented the Lenz Moser Hocherziehung trellising system now used all over Austria. Laurenz decided to branch out a few years ago and focus entirely on gruner veltliner. His goal is to produce “elegant and charming” wines, wines that are subtle and elegant yet still retain the spiciness that gruner is known for without losing it’s playful edge.  To that end, he is currently producing 3 different wines, the Friendly, Charming and Sunny Gruner Veltliners along with the Silver Bullet, a biodynamic gruner like no other. Balfour video winetasting at the Bluebird

Well, if you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know that I’m a big fan of Balfour Brut Sparkling Rose from Hush Heath Estate and I’ve written about it numerous times. I even took a couple of bottles to the American winebloggers conference last summer where it was a big hit. Last week, Penny from the Wine Cellar at the Bluebird, had a tasting of the Balfour Brut Sparkling Rose. I took along my fellow wineblogger, Wine90, so she could see what all the fuss was about. La dolce vida and Bisol Prosecco, wine video

Recently, the La Dolce Vida show hit London with a magnificent display of all things Italian. And of course, there was plenty of wine in attendance including that lovely sparkler, prosecco. Bisol was one of the major producers at the show. They’ve been producing prosecco in the Veneto since 1542 so they know a thing or two about it.  I had the opportunity to try their single vineyard prosecco, the Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Crede  as well as sit down and have a chat with Roberto Cremonese of Bisol Prosecco. p.s. The Winesleuth and Wine90 checking out the chards…

The Winesleuth (me, Denise) has joined forces with the always entertaining UK wineblogger,  Wine90 (Sarah Newton), for occasional forays into the world of video blogging or vlogs as they’re commonly known. So I called up Sarah and invited her over with a wine of her choice, something to compare and contrast with my white Burgundy. Sarah usually blogs about Italian wines but for our maiden voyage into vlogs, she chose something to go along with the chardonnay theme, an ’05 Californian chard, the ’05 Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnnay from Santa Maria Valley (£18), which she picked up from one of my favourite wineshops, Wines of the World in Earlsfield. Oddbins has been slowly releasing a trickle of wines to the shops and this little gem arrived the other day.   An ’05 white Burgundy from Domaine Martin, the Senaillet, a Macon-Villages, 1oo% chard, a fantabulous mouthful that has found it’s way onto our shores and currently at the reduced price of £6.99 Now this should be an interesting comparison…it’s a tad long but we were delighted and amused….(I can’t believe she’s never heard of creamsicles!)
